How we built this list
We started from luthier directories and bass forums, then kept only shops whose own website says they work on the double bass (setup, repair, adjustments, sales or rentals) and gives an address. Directories turned out to be badly out of date: several listed shops now work on violin, viola and cello only, some have closed, and a few old shop domains now point to unrelated sites, so we left all of those out.
Where a shop’s site names the bass only for sales or rentals, the card says what they list. “Nearby” means outside the city but close enough that players from that city use it. If your shop is missing, it’s usually because its site doesn’t mention the double bass yet.
Looking for a jam to play at once your bass is set up? Try the Jazz Jam Finder. Thinking about buying? Rent or buy an upright bass and check your humidity.

FAQ
How did you pick these upright bass shops?
A shop is listed only when its own website says it works on the double bass and gives an address. Directory and forum mentions alone weren’t enough, and we opened every shop’s site twice.
Do these shops work on electric bass too?
Some do. A card says so only when the shop’s own site says it. Otherwise ask them.
Why is a well-known shop missing?
Usually because its site doesn’t mention the double bass, wouldn’t load for us, or has no address. We’d rather leave a shop off than guess.
Better Bass Lessons isn’t connected to any shop on this page. Listings checked October 9, 2026.
